FULTON COUNTY: Officials Seeking Help Finding Person Who Shot Bald Eagle

The Game Commission is seeking help in finding out who shot a bald eagle.

Wildlife Conservation Officer Amanda Powell is investigating the recent wounding of a bald eagle in McConnellsburg, Fulton County.

The bird, an immature female, was found in a field on Thistle Ridge Lane on September 14. Barely alive, it had been shot through one leg and a wing. Suffering from the gunshot wounds, broken bones in its leg and wing, dehydration, malnutrition, and infection, it was transported by WCO Powell to a rehabilitator, then to a veterinarian. The eagle subsequently succumbed to its wounds.

In Pennsylvania, the bald eagle is no longer listed as threatened under the Game and Wildlife Code, and though not listed as endangered or threatened at the federal level, both bald and golden eagles are still protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Protection Treaty Act.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Southcentral Region Game Commission Office at 814 643-1831.
